This is the best curry goat ever! Of course I will say that cos I cooked it but I haven't tasted another that can beat mine. It is a firm favourite and if you've never tried goat before this will definitely be a good first try. Its a long cooking time but not a lengthy process. So once you put it on to cook, you have time to go do other stuff or relax.

Delicious served with rice, plantain and okra.

goat

Salt and pepper the goat

Brown the goat

Mix it all

Add water, bring to boil and simmer for at least 2 hours

Add potatoes 20 minutes before the end.

Serve with rice, plantain and veg - I chose okra

Ingredients:

  • 1.5kg goat meat (cut in chunks) I used goat shoulder but leg is just as good.

  • Coarse black pepper and salt

  • Cooking oil

  • 3 cloves minced garlic

  • 1 medium onion sliced

  • 3 Tablespoons Curry Goat powder (I used my own blend but you can buy decent ones from West Indian groceries

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 2 sprigs of thyme

  • 2 spring onion sliced

  • 2-3 medium potatoes

  • 1 Tablespoon tomato puree

  • 1 scotch bonnet pepper (adjust to suit taste buds or replace with any hot pepper)

  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

Season goat with, salt and pepper. Set asideIn a large pot, heat oil over medium heat, until hot, and then add the goat meat sauté stirring, frequently, scraping any browned bits off the bottom of the pot, until goat is brown.

Then add curry powder, stir for about 1-2 minutes. Add the garlic, pepper, onions, thyme, tomato puree, spring onions and scotch bonnet pepper stir for about a minute.

Pour in just enough water to cover the goat and bring to a boil and let it simmer until tender (depending on the goat size and preference) about 2 hours or more, stirring the saucepan occasionally and adding more water as needed.

About 15-20 minutes before you remove from the stove add potatoes. Continue cooking until potatoes are tender, if you want really thick curry goat let the potatoes cook even more .You may adjust thickness with water.

Serve with rice, plantain and veg of choice I used okra.

Enjoy xoxo
